Microsoft Edge is rapidly becoming a widely-adopted application, not only because it's the new default on Windows 10, but also because of actually being a worthy browser.

However this doesn't necessarily mean there aren't items to improve, and something from the features Microsoft is currently trying to puzzle out is a bug causing the app to crash when loading YouTube.

As spotted by TechDows, an issue reported several weeks ago caused Edge 90 to close unexpectedly when YouTube is loaded in the browser, and also at the first glance, add-ons or third-party extensions aren't those to blame.

So the culprit might well be a browser component, and a Microsoft engineer has suggested disabling hardware acceleration to see if this helps.

Few people could possibly get YouTube up and running in Edge with this particular workaround though, so Microsoft is actively investigating the issue and calling for users to submit feedback in order to assist the company evaluate which exactly is happening.

Fix likely within the works

"To save the day by helping cover their the investigation, you should be capable of seeing the crashes you've experienced on edge://crashes," part of the Microsoft Edge team explains on reddit.

"There's a Send feedback button around the right side of this page for every crash the browser has logged, and providing additional context within the description is useful for the team to understand the context to the data. However, if you do not use whatever recent crashes, please do submit feedback should you experience the crash again immediately after recovering Edge by heading to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback."

At this time, it's not clear when a fix is supposed to land, but expect an update to determine the daylight any day now, especially because of the Microsoft Edge team is already considering all the reports.

The Canary version of the browser seems to be hitting similar crashes online.

Microsoft has announced the News and Interests go through the company continues to be testing for many months within the Windows Insider program is now readily available for the very first wave of production devices.

In other words, the brand new taskbar widget that shows the elements and expands to display news, articles, traffic information, along with other information is no more an insider-exclusive feature, but everyone can have it so long as they're running Windows 10.

The brand new feature is available included in the optional Windows 10 April 2021 cumulative update, and Microsoft says everyone can get it when the next Patch Tuesday rollout kicks off in May.

"News and interests around the Windows taskbar will begin rolling out to customers within the next weeks. We are taking a phased and measured approach and broad availability will occur in the approaching months," the company explains.

To become contained in the May 2021 Patch Tuesday rollout

Obviously, the brand new feature includes all of the goodies which have been tested in the last preview builds within the Windows Insider program, including several customization options that permit it to better align with your expectations.

"You can adjust which information cards are as part of your experience and just how weather updates are displayed. The elements can be shown as an icon with text or being an icon only when you need to save taskbar space. You can also adjust which information cards - weather, finance, sports, traffic - are included, ensuring you are just seeing content you care about. Obviously, if you're not thinking about any of these details you can just switch off the icon," Microsoft explains.

Keep in mind that the rollout takes place gradually, so few people installing the April 2021 preview cumulative updates would view it. However, I expected the rollout to advance quite fast, so expect everybody so that you can try out the taskbar widget rather sooner than later.

Microsoft has released new cumulative updates for Windows 10 day, and of course, version 2004 and 20H2 have obtained their particular pack of improvements.

Windows 10 version 2004 and 20H2 share exactly the same cumulative update, with the latter representing probably the most stable version of the operating-system.

The cumulative update aimed at the 2 versions is KB5001330, and likewise towards the typical security updates for Windows 10 and also the built-in components, it comes with three important fixes.

First of all, it resolves a potential elevation of privilege hitting Azure Active Directory, after which, it offers fixes for recently discovered security bugs related to RemoteFX vGPU.

Microsoft explains that because of all these vulnerabilities, future Windows updates will no longer include this feature, as other secure vGPU choices are available, including DDA in Windows Server LTSC releases.

No new known issues

The last fix concerns an issue that was originally created by another cumulative update.

"Addresses a problem in which a principal in a trusted MIT realm fails to get yourself a Kerberos service ticket from Active Directory domain controllers (DC). This occurs on devices that installed Windows Updates that contain CVE-2020-17049 protections and configured PerfromTicketSignature to 1 or more. These updates were released between November 10, 2020 and December 8, 2020. Ticket acquisition also fails with the error, "KRB_GENERIC_ERROR", if callers submit a PAC-less Ticket Granting Ticket (TGT) as an evidence ticket without providing the USER_NO_AUTH_DATA_REQUIRED flag," Microsoft explains.

Just like the rest of the cumulative updates, KB5001330 obtainable from Windows Update on all Windows 10 devices.

At the time of writing, I'm not aware of any installation issues, so in theory, everything should work effectively when trying to set up KB5001330, without any new known problems acknowledged by Microsoft so far.
