Microsoft wants you to have its Edge browser in Windows 10. Air cleaner will add, really, would like you to use it. Once you open Edge and show off for "Chrome" or "Firefox" using Bing, Edge's default search results, you'll be offered a massive banner informing you that "Microsoft Edge will likely be the faster, safer browser on Windows 10 and is defined as already linked with your PC". Four boxes below then make suggestions how Edge helps you browse longer, and faster, offers built-in protection and built-in assistance.

If this doesn't stop you, then Microsoft boasts a new, much nastier trick up its sleeve -- if you install Firefox or Chrome it intercepts the experience and you want to a window promoting Edge with a similar line specifically its browser is faster and safer. After that it gives you a blue button to click to read Edge, or just a grey one you could potentially click to attach the browser you truly want to use. Oh, and all this window will help keep appearing, if you don't go into Settings and Windows 10 from supplying you with app "recommendations".

This intercept is already showing up in Windows 10 version 1809 Insider builds, and also now we don't yet determine if this is something which will be put off when Windows 10 1809, aka the October 2018 Update, rolls seem to all users next month, but I certainly wouldn't bet to it.

This is another new low from Microsoft, an organisation which has shown in earlier times that it doesn't really care about user preferences. What forced users to upgrade to Windows 10 against their will began to allow 2016, is a prime example. We'd hoped those dark days were behind us, but it really really seems not.

As the banner in Bing promoting Edge is fair game, and -- to a new degree -- the side ads that Microsoft occasionally hands over when you're using another browser are usually also acceptable, Windows 10 actually stopping users from installing an excellent program -- that they've got chosen to -- in order to promote one more, inferior, product simply isn't on.
